Bardwell is fortunate, and grateful, to have a very active community speedwatch team.
The team is led by Ali Compton and whilst the speedwatch team is independent of the parish council, trained and insured by Suffolk Police, the parish council is extremely supportive of their work and provides funding where necessary.
The speed gun and other equipment, such as signage, that the team use in their work is provided by the police.
The speed indictor signs (2) have been purchased and are owned by Bardwell Parish Council, who is responsible for the costs of their maintenance and any repairs.
These are not ANPR cameras – in other-words: they do not record registration numbers or images of vehicles/people.
They solely record speed data and ‘flash’ to to advise drivers of their speed as they approach the unit.
If either flashes over 30mph – please slow down – you are driving above the speed limit.
The two speed indicator signs are located:
- Spring Road. This aging unit – which has recently cost £400 to repair following vandalism (for the second time) – is currently not providing data. However, it does still flash to remind motorists of their speed as they approach.
- Low Street/Ixworth Road.
This more modern unit records data from both directions. So although it isn’t able to advise you of your speed as you leave the village – it does record the speed/data.
This is orientated to show motorists their speed as they enter the village.
