Bardwell Parish Council is deeply saddened by the devasting fire in Low Street Bardwell yesterday.
Our heartfelt sympathies go out to all those affected by this fire, and the many who have lost their homes for the time being. Thankfully no one was hurt and all pets safe. We will remain in contact with those impacted, offering support at this very difficult time.
The road out of the village to Ixworth is closed today, and as yet we cannot give a date and time when it will reopen, please use alternative routes.
Whilst the situation was unfolding yesterday, we also had to deal with a major mains water pipe burst in Quaker Lane. This road is also closed from the bottom of Quaker Lane to the entrance of The Croft. Again, please use an alternative route whilst repairs are completed.
We must thank those who turned out to help divert the water from this leak from entering properties in Low Street. This was an enormous effort by all those involved, thank you so much for your help.
Our thanks also go out to Suffolk and Norfolk fire service, The Salvation Army, UK Power, Suffolk Highways, Suffolk Police and Anglian Water for their swift actions and the Bardwell team who activated the parish council emergency plan who opened and staffed the Tithe Barn as a respite centre during the evening.
We will not be allowing any photos of the fire or the aftermath out of respect to the residents involved.
